Le Marche wine tasting holidays - White Wines
Many peoples knowledge of Marche wines starts (and sometimes ends) with Verdicchio and its characteristic green fish shaped bottle. However, as Le Marche becomes better known, so do it's wines and the region produces some great whites wines, many are available in the delicatessans and shops in the medieval town of Sarnano near our lovely Villa. Better still, we have created a Wine Tour using Google maps around the cantinas that we have visited in the wonderful central Le Marche Countryside and it's historic towns. We are happy to help you with suggestions of the best cantinas to visit on wine holidays in Le Marche.

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi
The best known of Le Marche's wines, Jesi Verdicchio is a clear, dry intense and full-bodied white made from the Verdicchio grape plus up to 20% of Malvasia and Trebbiano. The Jesi Verdicchio vineyards are around the lovely medieval town of Jesi found just inland from Ancona, an hour from The Villa
Verdicchio di Matelica:
Produced in a more elevated zone than it's cousin from Jesi, Verdicchio di Matelica has very similar characteristics but with a crisper, simpler and fuller bodied flavour, derived from it's mountainous origins. Matelica is an hour North of the Villa near Camerino and the caves at Frassasi
Falerio dei Colli Ascolani:
A lovely basket of goodies awaited our arrival and it wasn't long before a glass of the very good local wine included, was consumed on the idyllic balcony overlooking the courtyard. The views across Sarnano and the mountains from the pool are spectacular!
Suzie, Ireland
A beautiful, delicately perfumed, not too dry white. Falerio is made from Tuscan Trebbiano, Tuscan Malvasia, Pinot bianco, Verdicchio, Passerina and Pecorino grapes cultivated on the gentle slopes in the Provinces of Ascoli and Fermo just South of the Villa.
Esino Bianco:
Esino Biano, produced in Ancona and the area of Macerata near Matelica (an hour from the Villa), it has a characteristically intense bouquet and a fresh dry taste, due to the verdicchio grapes that make up at least 50% of it's production.
Bianco dei Colli Maceratesi:
Bianco dei Coli Maceratesi means "white from the Macerata hills" and is produced locally to the villa. With a refreshing dry taste, a floral bouquet and a minimum of 11% alcohol, this white is produced from the Maceratino grape (min. 70%).
Bianchello del Metauro:
A fresh dry white wine, that's delicate but has great length and which dates back to 500 b.c. and has certainly stood the test of time. Made from bianchello grapes in the Metauro area, 1 hour 40mins from the Villa, it has a minimum alcoholic content of 11.5%.
Offida Passerina:
Made with the Passerina grape in the Offida area an hour South East of the Villa, it has a great perfume and slightly acidic flavour.
Offida Pecorino:
This light green, fresh and fruity wine is little known but has a really rounded flavour and great for an aperitivo. It's made from a minimum 85% Pecorino grape in the Offida area an hour South East of the villa |
