Farm holidays in Italy
Farm holidays in Italy are also known as Italian agriturismos, however, to qualify as an Agritourism , the Italian farmhouse must produce and offer food and hospitality to customers, many farms also have a restaurant or holiday accommodation.
Our Le Marche farmhouse has been converted in a similar way to an Italian agriturismo but as we only have 3 hectares we do not produce enough food to meet the requirements for an Agriturismo in Italy.
Our Marche farmhouse recently received an excellence award from tripadvisor, has a flourishing vineyard, and we also grow organic herbs, fruit and vegetables for our guests and rent our land to an organic sheep farmer. We are set in the countryside yet only 1km from the buzzing medieval village of Sarnano.
Italian farmhouse tax breaks
There are big tax breaks available to Agiturismos in Italy. We don’t benefit from the substantial Le Marche agriturismo tax breaks on offer to farmhouses as we are not using the land productively ourselves (we rent it to an organic sheep farmer). But, you will find everything at our Italian farmhouse that you would at an Italian agritourismo.
Our guests still take our produce straight from our land and from local artisans to their tables and enjoy our wonderful organic seasonal produce for free.
Our old farmhouse was constructed in the 19C and was totally restored by us in 2005 to include all modern conveniences. To bring our farm holidays in Italy up to date, the Marche farmhouse now includes a large swimming pool, wifi, hammocks, games, film and book library
The history of Agriturismo farm holidays in Italy
After the second world war and through to the 1970s, smaller farms in Italy became uneconomic and, many Italian contadini left their farms in search of work in larger towns.
However, Italians continue to place importance on traditions, “campanilismo” or localism and loyalty to customs and especially artisan food production.
By 1985 a law defined agriturismo and many abandoned property and estates were restored, some for vacation rentals, and many for agritourism the Italian term for a farm holiday in Italy.
An Italy farmhouse holiday in Marche?
Many of the guests at our Italian farmhouse, head for the glorious rolling Italian hills and unwind from the stresses of modern life. Consequently, we have tried to restore the old Italian farmhouse, restore the feeling of the farmhouse when it was a working farm and supported a number of families.
If you are tempted by the lure of the beaten track to Tuscany or Umbria, then we urge you to read a number of recent articles calling Le Marche the new Tuscany.
We have recently edited a video of the Marche Farmhouse from the 1970s and the film depicts the farm as it was when we bought it in 2005.
Nowadays, an Italy farm holiday here allows guest to rent 4 self catering rental apartments, all with spacious accommodation that is unique to each apartment and includes many original architectural features.
As for Le Marche, it has been called the new Tuscany and all of Italy in one region, but visit our site pages on things to do and the region itself and you will be astounded at this relatively undiscovered but stunning area.
Why not stay at our award winning Le Marche farmhouse?
