A guide to Le Marche Museums and Art Galleries
There are Le Marche museums and art galleries (called pinacoteca) in many of Le Marche towns, this page is dedicated to those that are located centrally in Le Marche and predominantly in the Macerata province.

Abbadia di Fiastra Archaeology Museum
Roman artefacts found at nearby Urbisaglia; Open 10-12.30 and 15-18.30 every day (from 20/06 al 15/09); 10-12.30 e 15-17.30 solo festivi (dal 16/09 al 19/06). You can also phone and ask to see the museum of rural life at the same place (0733202122)
Basilica of Saint Nicola of Tolentino
Open 9-12 and 15-19. Past guests have returned amazed at the works of art, the crib museum, the ceramics and the architecture.
Macerata museums and art gallery
The town of Macerata has museums dedicted to the Risorgimento or unification of Italy, another for Antique carriages, cribs, natural history, a genral museum plus the Palazzo Ricci Art Gallery with sculpture and works of art, at Via Domenico Ricci in Macerata open 10-13 e 16-20 Saturdays and Sundays, and every day in July and August.
San Severino Museum
Archaeology- from prehistoric onwards. At the castle on the hill open 10-12 e 17-19 Fri/ Sat/Sun.
Urbisaglia Museum
At Traversa Piccinini in the town on the hill the museum if home to Roman finds from the Amphitheatre and the nearby site. Open 8.30-13.30 Monday & Tues; from Wed- Sat 8.30-19.30; 8.30-13.30 Sundays and feast days. Also an exhibition of armies and uniforms up at the town at Via del Sacrario 20, open 10-13 and 15-19 every day in Summer; 15-18 Saturdays and 10-13 and 15-18 on Sundays in the Winter.
Camerino, Le Marche Museums
Camerino museums include a History museum with bronzes, art, ceramics etc. Open 10-13 and 16-19 (from April to Sept); 10-13 and 15-18 (from Oct- Mar) – closed Mondays. Museum of Natural Science at Camerino University (Piazza Cavour, Palazzo Ducale). Plantlife, fossils and bottled animals (to go with your pasta). Open 8-14 from Mon-Fri, 14.30-17.30 Tuesday and Thursday.
University Orto/garden at Viale Veneziano and Oberdan. Down some stairs near the University is a garden founded in 1828 with plants and trees from the local hills and mountains, ranging from Orchids to 250 plants researched by the university and used in medications.
Open 9-13 and 15-17 from Monday to Friday, 9-13 Wed; by request on Saturday (0737403084) closed Sunday. Camerino Civic Art Gallery open 10-13 and 16-19 (from Apr- Sept); 10-13 and 15-18 (from Oct-Mar) – closed Mondays. Renaissance art and a large emphasis on the 18th & 19th Centuries.
Sarnano Museum
Museum of local wildlife including birds, reptiles and mammals, armourments, art and the world’s largest and maybe only hammer collection (yes really!) Open 9-12.30 e 16-18.30 from Monday to Thursday and 9-12.30 Friday; also 9-12.30 e 16-19 Saturday & Sunday (from15/07 to15/09 and national holidays)
Castello Della Rancia Museum,Tolentino
Archaeological museum: Open 10-13 and 15-19, closed Monday (from 15/3 to 15/10); 10-13 and 15-18; Saturdays, Sundays and feast days (from 16/10 to 14/3)
Ascoli Piceno Pinacoteca
The town of Ascoli is worthy of a visit for its history, dramatic architecture, sophisticated bars and beautiful Piazzas. However, it is also home to a Le Marche museum, contemporary art gallery and a ceramics museum
Ripe San Ginesio museum
Touring Le Marche from the Villa, you will often pass nearby the little medieval town of Ripe San Ginesio which is home to a superb little art gallery with over 300 works.
Castello Pallotta, Caldarola
One of Italy’s best preserved medieval castles is only 15 minutes from the villa in the town of Caldarola and houses many important works of art and fantastic pieces of furniture. The Palotta family have owned the castle (and still do) for over 900 years, Castello Pallotta is one of 4 castles that are walkable from the town of Caldarola.
Dinosaur Park, Matellica
A real live dinosaur park and fossil museum at Matellica, combine with a day out to the Armani outlet, the cantinas in the area or a trip to Camerino or the incredible caves at Frasassi
