Organic Farmstay in Marche with free wine, produce & more

At Villa San Raffaello in Marche Italy we practice organic farming and our wine, vegetables, herbs and fruit comes straight from farm to table and is free to guests.

We are as eco-friendly as possible and guests are encouraged to compost all bio-degradable matter so that we can practice organic gardening. The compost is used on the vines and allotment using permaculture principles. This allows us to produce and give away our great wine, vegetables, herbs & fruit to guests for free.

Many people on our farm holidays in Italy take the organic vegetables back to their apartments, some eat alfresco and there are regular groups using the BBQ pit. Guests staying in early October usually enjoy helping out at the Vendemmia (or wine harvest and making). Each year we also plant trees to help with carbon offsetting

Sustainable holidays with a difference

Our sustainability extends to the rest of our land; which is lent to a friend who is an organic farmer and uses it for sheep forage. His sheep are milked and that is then used to make Ricotta and Pecorino. In return we are provided with firewood, cheese and occasionally prime cuts from wild boar

This symbiosis also exists in the community within our local village Sarnano. Sarnano has 3000 inhabitants and is one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. It has a rich cultural legacy and an agricultural one as a historical market town. This legacy remains today with the 7 butchers and the many local farms that supply their produce direct.

Sarnano has a multitude of bars and restaurants, year round tourism and all the services of a town many times its size. Inhabitants and tourists at Villa San Raffaello alike “keep it local” and as a result we have a fully sustainable community.  Many of our guests come on walking holidays, hiking or cycling holidays as we are a stone’s throw from the awesome Sibillini National Park
