Eat with a local in Sarnano
An Authentic Le Marche Experience
Travel is all about experiencing cultures unlike our own and getting under the skin of a place.
One of the main reasons that people love holidays in Italy is the style, the food and wine, well now you can savour the culture, style and cuisine by eating with a local. A unique travel experience.
Thankfully, there is now a global shift away from formal, showy, gimmicky gastronomy to social dining experiences which value home cooking, locally sourced produce, value, connection to your food and the people around you. The food in Le Marche has always been hearty robust fayre, so there’s no complaints there.
Eat Delicious Local Cuisine
Part of the global shift has seen a whole host of sites that enable local chefs to set up their homes as informal social dining clubs and enable foodies and travellers to find hosts serving sumptuous meals all over the globe.
The location and the style of the home , the quality of chatter, the host’s hospitality and local knowledge add to the cuisine and culinary delights to make dining with a local a memorable event.
Social dining promotes an inclusive atmosphere where strangers share the social dining experience around a table at a local home. Being a guest in someone’s home is a great way to get an authentic local perspective in a different city or country.
The best Le Marche food & great dinner hosts
When we first met Lia and Sergio they were exhausted from running their highly successful Le Marche restaurant, we were charmed by their friendly manner and blown away by their culinary wizardry.
They also happen to live in a wonderful 15 Century House in the Centro Storico of Sarnano, an Italian town with the accolade “one of the most beautiful villages in Italy”.
Entering their terracotta house, you immediately feel at home. Lia exudes the friendly vibe of someone you feel that you have known for years and her husband Sergio loves a practical joke or two. They have lived in the village for years and are a great mine of local knowledge and know all of the best places to source locally produced food and wine.
Eating with locals in their medieval home
Well they have now sold the restaurant but don’t want to hang up their aprons just yet, so we had a chat and mentioned the trends that are taking place in the world of social dining and suggested that they set themselves up as hosts and invite people round for dinner.
Thankfully, they are now taking in guests, so their culinary skills honed over 30 years are being put to good use and holiday makers to Le Marche are now savour their delicious food in the historic surroundings of their house. If you are travelling to Le Marche this Summer this is we can recommend many local restaurants but this is one eating experience you shouldn’t miss.
