Beaches
The Adriatic Coast of Le Marche consists of a long
stretch of beautiful, clean, safe beaches. Within easy reach are
seaside resorts with sandy or pebbly beaches, private or free beaches,
pine clad hills rolling down to secluded coves, wonderful seafront
restaurants and bars, markets, designer outlets, sophisticated shopping
and buzzing nightlife. Oh and some delicious gelati!
Some particular favourites include the following…
Sirolo & Numana:
The Conero National Park includes the riviera's
two chief resorts. Sirolo is the most attractive, with a medieval
centre, and a tree-lined, balcony piazza that teeters high above
the sea. The best beaches are accessible via a small road that drops
down to each of the coves. Its neighbour Numana. This has a lovely
port and a fine long beach to the south, plus an archaeological
museum documenting the history of the Piceni tribes who lived here
until Rome muscled in.
But the town's main attractions are its fish, its
vast, safe and sandy beach and the numerous, moderately priced restaurants
to choose from, all serving brodetto (the Marche fish stew).
Porto San Giorgio:
What was once the ancient port for the inland city
of Fermo is now a pleasant seaside resort with a small working port.
Its streets offer great shopping and in high summer the place buzzes
with markets and plenty of concerts and festas. Eclectic architecture
includes a 13th© fortress and a number of Liberty Style villas,
built in the smarter seaside resorts across Italy at the turn of
the 19th©.<

San Benedetto del Tronto:
A popular palm tree lined resort which has 8km
of wide, sandy beach. The resort retains a stylish old-world elegance,
especially in the older part of the town above the main resort,
with its castle and narrow streets. However, in the Summer, it comes
alive and is a vibrant place with great shopping, top restaurants
and great nightlife.
